The protagonist... doesn't really look like a mouse. Her teeth are scary, and her tail is more like a lion. And of course, I see no mouse ears.
Should be good enough for a regular game, but I think just having breasts bigger than her head doesn't make her good-looking enough for a porn game.
that's fair. different people have different things that appeal to them. regarding the tail and ears though, they were based more on long-eared jerboas than regular house mice

It looks like she's covered in soot, not tanned. When skin gets tanned it gets more saturated not less, unless she's perfectly alabaster white she'd get more red/yellow in her tanned areas, not more charcoal colored. If you look at real tans, they don't have greyish tanned skin and then pinky untanned skin.

Please use reference in the future. Your art is appealing outside of this, but the response in this thread should make you reconsider how you render tan lines. You can't go up to everyone who thinks it looks weird and go "well actually".
i'm not trying to argue, that i'm not a perfect artist or that i know everything better. my initial comment was more that i didnt quite understand what exactly the person meant.
i did use references when i designed her years ago. but it very well might be, that across the years, the tones shifted to make it look odd. might as well adjust it, i do still have all the work files afterall. i do appreciate the feedback in general

edit: would nr2 or 3 be more fitting? i feel like any more saturation and she's gonna look like trump, lmao. nr4 might be good too, but i feel like it's too saturated again

I think a better way for the bucktooth is to make it a bit bigger and always prominent, even when her lips are closed.
The way I think it works is that a bucktooth would occupy some extra space in a mouth, making it hard to purse your lips as perfectly as she does.
I think the tail probably should be more fleshy to represent a proper rat tail, maybe make the base of the tail more bushy but the end tips fleshy.
For the tan... I'm a bit colorblind so admittedly colors aren't something I'm good at but maybe try to make the color more flesh toned? To me it looks a bit too grey, maybe increasing the red could help? I don't know, in this matter I'm trying to give some advice but honestly, others can do it better than me.
Also while I do feel the eyes are a bit bulging, I did learn that rats and mices do have their eyes bulge whenever they're happy, so I find that fitting.

Edit: Also regarding the mouth, try to make it a bit wider maybe?
Mouse do have elongated faces, so maybe that could help convey her mouse traits more.

yeah, about the tab you're all definitely right, that it was too greyish. i think i settled now with this combo 1720471464048.png
made the untanned skin a bit less and the tanned skin a bit more saturated.

however one thing i want to make clear, and i dont want to imply that anyone here wants to force me to, i wont change her or any of my characters design if it's not for my own will, same with my art style, but i think that should be a given.
that being said, i'm always open for general criticims and opinions, both on characters but especially on the gameplay(the little that exists) etc.

I can tell that your not neccesarily a bad artist but the mc could really use a redesign man. I would draw her at least 3 more times and put up a poll to figure out which one is the best. I would also make her more mouse like with mouse ears. This design just wont work and a recolor will fix little as the design is inherently uncanny for most people I'm completely sure on that one. You might be able to get away with only changing the face tho

hey, that's a fair opinion to have. but as i said above, i wont change the designs themself.
if that makes the game unappealing to you, there are countless other games on this website to play.

That's right. Many games go down the drain because the developers give in to everything and everyone.
This is your game so do it the way you want. Are you happy with the design of the characters? Then don't change anything about it.

And now make her legs longer, her boobs sharper and her elongated back firmer. :ROFLMAO:

Cool, that works much better! I'm not necessarily opposed to the artstyle, I wasn't being a smartass or facetious before. I just legitimately couldn't tell it was supposed to be a tan until I took a closer look at the un-tanned pattern. It's much clearer now that it's more browned instead of being shadowed/grey/ashy.

As for the character design and artstyle generally, I do think there's a balance to be struck in that since part of the point of creating something is to share it with others, but I also completely agree that there's no sense in compromising your own preferences in the process. The trick, I think, lies in finding ways to communicate those preferences in the best possible way and present them in the best possible light. There's a world of difference between criticism that says "I don't like your designs, you should change them" and criticism that says "I like the designs, but they're not presented as well as they could be," and there's no shortage of both types on these forums. Finding a way to distingush between them is key.

I did a quick little thing to help give you feedback! If you look at this random assortment of heavy tanlines, you'll see just how saturated the tanned skin in, towards the reddish/yellow side of the color wheel. If you want to go with a heavy tan, don' t be afraid to push the saturation to like 90%.

Personally, I think a few things come as strange for the character or may turn off people you otherwise would entice: The rendering/shading on the face is inconsistent with the rest of the body. The legs/torso has dramatic delineations between light and dark, while the face is very gentle. The legs have these huge highlights while the highlights on the face are very subtle, despite them being in the same lighting conditions. The reason the face looks like it's covered in soot or makeup is it seems like it absorbs light in a way different from the rest of her skin, so it implies some sort of applicative makeup or covering. Your choice to reconcile this is to either increase the contrast between highlights and shadows on the face or decrease it for the body.

That, and I know it's a style choice, but the blonde eyelashes look uncanny on a tanned character. The only time you see light colored eyelashes is on people with albinism, and they literally cannot tan, so it just looks offputting, which is not what you want for an attractive character.

Anyway, that's my two cents, you can take it or leave it, but I wouldn't be offering it if I didn't see potential!

The updated one is better than it was before, but I just wanted to illustrate how saturated tan skin is compared to untanned pale skin.

dw, you're all good. i legitimately dont mind criticism on my designs, but even then i'm not planning on changing them. yes, i was aware, that i'll receive feedback on every single thing once i put the game out there, and was also aware that i wont like everything people have to say, but that didnt stop me. when being totally honest, this game is a personal project. of course i want to make it as good as i can and feedback always helps, and yes, i also "raise money" for the development through patreon etc, but i'm not forcing anyone to pay anything.
the whole thing is more of a "i want to make a game for myself" rather than trying to appeal to as many people as possible. The game itself, such as the designs and artstyle are probably more niche and that's fine. i want to keep them like this.
when it comes to criticism like the tanned color being bad, i am more than happy to accept that feedback and improve, but things like "please change her ears" and such i wont, as it's a big part of her design, at least for myself.

yes, the leg highlights are definitely a thing i still need to adjust.
i like to think that i did a better job with the combat assets(although the legs are mostly hidden by the UI), but there definitely is still room for improvement, same with the facial lighting

the colored eyelashes are a deliberate choice and i can totally see people not liking them, however it's a thing i personally am very fond of and wont change.
yeah, i see what you mean and i did look further into refs while doing the new colors and to be 100% honest, i'm still not 100% satisfied and am still trying different things and am talking to some professional artists for support.

nto quite sure what dopped means. the cards should fly to the side at the end of the turn, like they did for you, but they sould disappear and the enemies should do their shit. What exactly did you do before this? just clicked the end turn button? does the music still play? does the task manager tell you the game doesnt respond? please give me as much info as you can, so i can try and replicate the issue and fix it

for some reason i cant make it in or out fullscreen... by anychance alt + enter or other comands
yeah i... haven't enabled fullscreen support yet...

okay
So, from the beginning... I open the game and the screen looks like it's in a window but at the wrong resolution, the bottom part is there... sometimes when I open the game I click on play or load... its like kind of the button clicks but it doesn't... the music keeps going and everything, but it doesn't respond so, I close it and open it and it resolves...

when I enter the game the dialogues work, the menu too... in the first combat of caravan, this bug happens where I'm fighting and at random moments, it happens when I end the turn the cards get bugged there in the corner and the game freezes... then I have to close and open it again, restart the combat and sometimes I can get through, but 80% of the time at some point, at the beginning or near the end it stops again, the music continues but even leaving it open and clicking, it doesn't seem like it has stopped responding, and unlucky dont come back

sorry my poor english, its not first language
